Alternative Process

 8 SECONDS

8 SECONDS is the amount of time a rider must stay on a bucking bronc; gripping the thick rope rein with one hand while the other hand remains free and does not touch any part of the horse.

8 SECONDS is an homage to the natural alternative photographic process of the mid 1800s known as cyanotype, and the salt of the earth American west culture of riding, roping, and rodeoing of the same era. Neither the cyanotype process nor the American west is as crude as it once was, but the simplicity of nature remains at the heart of both. The 34 second video is made up of more than 350 cyanotype prints; digitized, edited, and animated using video editing software.
